Our history
A decade of innovation
The Roots of Innovation & The Birth of Emoby
Our journey began in 2013. A close-knit group of engineers and legal experts deeply rooted in the industrial energy sector decided to turn their attention toward urban mobility. The goal was ambitious: design a fully automated, self-service rental and charging system for personal mobility scooters.
Out of this passion, the Emoby brand was born. By combining heavy-duty technical expertise with a human-centric approach, the team successfully launched the industry's first — and still only — unattended rental and automatic charging ecosystem for personal mobility aids.
Designing for the User & Embracing Interoperability
From day one, we built our software platform entirely in-house, refining it daily to meet the evolving needs of over 115,000 active users. We realized early on that the future of transit lies in total integration.
To create a truly connected experience, we integrated features that allowed users to sync their trips — booking a parking space alongside their mobility scooter, reserving EV charging stations for their cars, and accessing transit services. We built the software to plug seamlessly into third-party municipal platforms, parking operators, and public transit networks. To accelerate this open ecosystem, we launched our dedicated e-bike division to engineer purpose-built solutions for pedal-assist bicycles.
Wireless Charging & Industry 4.0 Recognition
In 2019, we made a massive technological leap. Partnering with industrial manufacturing leader King Meter, we developed a groundbreaking automated wireless (inductive) charging system tailored for both mobility scooters and e-bikes.
Our forward-thinking engineering caught the attention of global auditors. The international certification body SGS officially certified all Emoby automated infrastructure as fully compliant with Industry 4.0 standards — making us the first and only company in Italy to achieve this elite distinction.
The Join2Charge Revolution
Innovation doesn't rest. In 2021, we fundamentally changed micro-mobility hardware by patenting Join2Charge — a proprietary, universal locking and charging mechanism. This breakthrough allowed us to permanently retire outdated, cumbersome charging bars and bulky dual-docking stations.
Instead, we delivered a sleek, universal system compatible with virtually any e-bike frame. We paired this technology with our flagship EWDS smart docking pillars, rolling them out across a diverse fleet of Emoby City, Mountain, and Delivery e-bikes.
Global Partnerships & Smart Parking Integration
Our reliable, heavy-use infrastructure soon caught the attention of global mobility giants. In 2022, we established major partnerships with industry leaders like Skidata and Apcoa. They chose our operations as their innovation lab to design, test, and deploy integrated ecosystems alongside major parking and transit hub operators.
Rejecting the Status Quo & Mastering the Retrofit
We choose to anticipate the future rather than react to it. While the rest of the industry poured resources exclusively into free-floating, dockless fleets, we doubled down on infrastructure, knowing that long-term sustainability requires order and reliability.
A True Hybrid Platform: Our software evolved into a multi-model powerhouse capable of managing docked stations, virtual geo-fenced hubs, and free-floating fleets simultaneously — giving cities total operational flexibility.
The Retrofit Challenge (ECDS): We engineered a conductive, IoT-enabled smart charging module using our proprietary Join2Charge lock. This technology can be integrated into e-bikes straight from the factory floor, but more importantly, it can be seamlessly retrofitted onto e-bikes already on the street with minimal modifications. This became our ECDS product line — the culmination of a decade of engineering grit and passion.
